THe only photograph is on the cover. Also, with this book you have no idea what the different stitches should look like.
In my opinion, for about a dollar and a half more, "The New Sewing With a Serger" from Singer is far superior to this book. I purchased 2 books on sergers from Amazon.
Save your money. The drawings are tiny and it is difficult to see what they represent.
the Singer book is a larger format, has an enormous number of full color PHOTOGRAPHS and does everything that this book does,and so much more. Though the information in the book is good, the format is boring and it lacks many things.
The book has black and white drawing throughout which I find difficult to decipher due to lack of detail.
Thank goodness most of that has gone the way of rugs knit out of old breadbags. For a pocket size book there is a lot packed in here. I kind of skipped over that part tho it seems like some of the info might be useful to people who don't have a manual or have a poorly written one, especially on a basic machine. I would have liked to have seen a compendium of modern techniques focused on getting a good finished look similar to RTW instead of just an edge that is easy and won't ravel but looks "homemade."An argument can be made as to whether or not the generic serger info should be included when it's in the manuals for the individual machines. I do however agree with the other reviewer that some of it is dated. IMHO there is an overriding fascination with "decorative" overlocking.
It's companion is also a must have, and since neither is expensive ,it makes the set the most affordable on the market. One of the local sewing machine dealers always refers to it as 'the serger's bible'. This is my second copy of this book; I gave my first one to my daughter-in-law. It is the one serger book I always refer to first and do not want to be without.
Shirley Clark I bought this product and another book from Amazon after receiving both of them, I realized that I already had these books and I wrote to Amazon to return them, I saw the shipping labels and thought I should use them, then I found out, I was going to have to use one for each book, so I wrote to Amazon and told them that I was not going to use their shipping labels and would send the two books back in a box together and I would pay the shipping charges at the post office, which I did, now I have received an email from Amazon saying they are charging me $3.99 for the one shipping label, I have not received an email about the other book that was in the box yet, if they do not straighten this out, I will never buy another book from Amazon. To state I am unhappy with Amazon is putting it mildly.
It will make a good addition to my sewing library. I have been sewing since junior High school but the serger still intimidates me. This is a good book and I received it in a timely manner.
